Why Bridal Underwear is Just as Important as the Wedding Gown
Tracey Parece
Even though the wedding guests don't see the bride's undergarments on her special day, her bridal underwear is nearly as important as her wedding gown. That's because the right bra or bustier, panties and stockings make a huge difference in the fit and appearance of the wedding gown even if no one ever sees them but the groom.
Bridal underwear should smooth the appearance of a woman's torso without adding panty lines, visible straps, or creases. It shouldn't bunch up or be noticeable beneath the bodice and skirt of the wedding gown. The last thing a bride needs to bring attention to on her wedding day is her undergarments. These articles of clothing should discreetly help the bride feel confident and beautiful.
The modern bride might choose to wear supportive stockings to compress the lower tummy area or minimize thigh jiggling. There's plenty of time for skimpy thongs, strapless bras and lacy lingerie after the wedding reception. What a bride really needs is something that won't fall down, ride up or become uncomfortable during the wedding ceremony and reception.
That means bridal underwear can include a girdle or other spandex compression garment, but only if it's comfortable enough to hold up through hours of celebrating. It doesn't mean a bride can't choose something sexy and attractive providing it's also supportive and practical.
Deciding what to wear under her wedding gown is an intensely personal decision that every bride will need to make. It's a good idea for the bride to ask the opinion of friends and family members as well as the staff of the bridal shop in order to determine what will work best. In the end, her wedding day is the most important day of her life and she shouldn't have to spend it worrying about her underwear.
